Augustine: Building a Life One Hive at a Time

โ€œAfter training with our beekeeping program, Augustine balances field work, family, and a growing number of harvest days โ€” proof that skills and follow-up change outcomes.โ€

Augustine came to the Foundation looking for a trade he could carry into any community โ€” something that did not depend on who you knew at the gate, but on discipline, learning, and care for living things. Beekeeping fit that description. The first weeks were technical: frames, smokers, the rhythm of inspections. The months that followed were personal: early mornings, stings, failed attempts, and small wins that stacked into confidence. "Bees do not negotiate," he laughs. "They teach you to show up the same way every time. That changed how I approach everything โ€” not just the hive." With starter equipment and mentorship, Augustine expanded from one hive to several. He sells honey locally, shares tips with neighbours curious about training, and contributes to household costs in ways that were not possible before. His story is one thread in our wider work: ex-offenders, youth, and community members who need not a slogan, but equipment, training, and someone who answers the phone when the season gets hard. When you support Mama Nyuki, you help more people like Augustine turn a skill into a livelihood โ€” and a livelihood into dignity.
